Drugstore Beetle

The drugstore beetle (Stegobium paniceum) occurs worldwide and infests a wide variety of foods. Like the flour beetle, the drugstore beetle will feed upon processed cereal, nuts, and spices, but will also damage wool, fur, leather, and infest drugs. It has also been known to damage taxidermy in museums. Adult beetles are about 1/8th inch long, cylindrical shaped with clubbed antennae and reddish-brown in color. Also, the head is not visible when viewed from above and the wing covers are striate (fine lines etched into surface) with fine hairs. The larva stage is similar to the adult in size, (a typical C-shaped white grub) and distinguished from others because they’re covered with hairs.
