Worried About Pesticide Use in Your Home?

Pesticide Warning Spray - Pesticide Use in Your Home

Are you reluctant to call an exterminator about a pest problem because you don’t want pesticides applied in your home? Let me be the first to assure you that pest control professionals have many non-pesticide ways to control pests, and there are ways to apply pesticides that greatly limit any human exposure. Any pest control company that you hire should be willing to listen to your concerns and work out a control plan.

Opt For Outside Pesticide Treatment Instead of Inside

One very popular option that we offer at Colonial Pest is our Preventative Maintenance Program. This program provides an outdoor pesticide treatment around the exterior perimeter of your home twice a year. Fine, you say, but I’m worried about pests inside my home, not out in the yard. That’s the beauty of timed exterior treatments, they kill pests before they can find their way into your home. Our fall treatment is timed to intercept certain pests that tend to move into homes to spend the winter.

When you choose our Preventative Maintenance Program, there is no pesticide applied in your home. In fact, you don’t even need to be home for our service visit, there is no preparation necessary, our technicians don’t even need to go inside. Pests are controlled all year without any inconvenience, odor, or mess. For more information on our annual Preventative Maintenance Program, give us a call or check out our Preventative Maintenance service page at this link, Our Package Plan Keeps Pests Away Year Round.

Indoor Pest Control Can Be Pesticide-Free

If your situation requires pest control inside your home, there are usually non-pesticide options that can be used such as traps, heat treatment, or specialty vacuuming. In fact, non-pesticide options are usually our first choice in handling a pest problem. Some pest problems can be solved by simply using air circulation to decrease humidity, or by “pest-proofing” certain areas of your home to keep pests from getting inside. Traps are an excellent non-pesticide option that we use for many types of pests.

If air-borne pesticides are a concern because of the vapors or odor, there are many low volatility, odor-free pesticides. Pesticide baits for cockroaches and ants are a popular, non-volatile option (see Ask For a Gel Baiting Program for Cockroaches). The odorless gel baits are placed in cracks and crevices or in small plastic stations. In fact, our entire termite control program is based on outdoor, in-ground bait monitors rather than on the injection of liquid pesticide.

Our technicians are well-trained in the use of integrated pest management (IPM) techniques (see What Does IPM Mean?) and are happy to talk to you about control options for your pest situation. Tell us your concerns and let us provide you with a pest management plan that works for you. Call Colonial Pest today.
