Here’s an interesting tidbit about Dracut – it’s the only town in the world with that name. So where did the name come from? It was named after Captain John Evered, aka Webb of Draucutt of Norfolk County, who purchased the land from the daughter of Passaconaway, chief of the Pennacook tribe. In that transaction, Dracut cost four yards of wool and a pound of tobacco.
Dracut is in northernmost Massachusetts, on the New Hampshire border, run through by the Merrimack River and Beaver Brook. It’s home to the Colburn/Cutter House, which dates back to 1717, and serves as the host site for the annual Dracut Craft Fair.
