Rice Weevil

The rice weevil is just one of a very large group of insects that infest stored raw and processed food. Collectively, these insects destroy up to 10% of the world’s food supply each year. Stored product insect pests are grouped by their feeding habits. The Rice and granary weevil attack whole grain internally completing their entire life cycle (egg, larva, and pupa) within the kernel and infestations are not easy to detect until adult weevils have emerged. Adult weevils have a distinct snout, are about 1/8 in. long, reddish brown in color with four yellowish spots on the wing covers. Rice weevils are primarily pests in grain storage facilities, mills, and are not commonly found in the home.
