House Spider

The common house spider (Achaearanea tepidariorum) is just that occurring nearly everywhere in the world. Like the black widow it belongs to the family known as comb-footed spiders but it is virtually harmless to people. Adult female spiders are about 1/3 inch yellowish-brown to grey in color with indistinct stripes. Males are similar in color, slightly smaller, and will often live with the female in the same web. These spiders build irregular webs (cobwebs) in damp areas such as basements, garages, crawlspaces, but can also be found around doorframes, windows and eaves.
